At Staples Road we are very lucky to have our own Yoga and Mindfulness teacher. Across the academic year all classes will get the equivalent of a terms worth of weekly 30 minute sessions. In reception these sessions are called Stretch and Sing. Children learn the power of deep breathing and exploring senses. In KS1 and KS2 they participate in Mindful Movement sessions, focused around mindfulness and ways to physically and mentally keep calm and manage feelings.
This year, we are also introducing Forest Bathing sessions. This is a process of relaxation; known in Japan as shinrin yoku. The simple method of being calm and quiet amongst the trees, observing nature around you whilst breathing deeply can help children de-stress and boost health and wellbeing in a natural way.
